Pin up must have accessory - hair flowers!

Here are some of my latest hair flowers. These have just arrived today and at the perfect time as I have a wedding this weekend where I will where one of these hair clips.
As I love vintage hair styles and the retro rockabilly fashion a hair style is never fully complete without a flower clipped in.
These two beauties are from Jessika Hill Accessories and she also has a eBay store. All these items are handmade and great quality I will definitely be going back for more.
As you can see from the picture these are quite big against my hand. As I always part my hair on the side I plan to clip one of these in the side with the less hair for that original pin up style. I will either wear my hair in victory rolls with waves or just set in waves I've not decided yet. I will definitely update my blog with pictures of my finished look.
My favourite of the two is the one with cherrys as it is so cute and unique this one has a crocodile clip to the back.
The all ivory one can be worn as a hair clip or a brooch as it has both fittings to the back. I am so excited to get wearing these gorgeous flowers.

My Collectif Clothing mini haul

Here are the 2 items that I recently purchased in the half price July sale.

Collectif Dolores Flared Dress - Blue Hibiscus
The Dolores dresses are my favourite and this is my first flared one and I love it. It's great for everyday or to dress up for a evening out. It goes perfect with my white kitten heels.

Collectif Dolores Top - Blue Polka
I love how versatile the Dolores items are, you can wear them on or off the shoulder. I prefer to wear them off as I have shoulder tattoos and this shows them off nicely. This goes perfect with either a pencil skirt or skinny jeans, either can be casual or dressed up looks.

I now want more Collectif items as they are all do pretty. Did you pick anything up in the recent Collectif sale?

Midi skirt second hand shop finds

So Midi skirts are back in fashion! And as I am a huge 1940s fashion follower I love the long skirts. Yes they do look like you raided your grans wardrobe but with a modern twist you will be retro glam in no time. I picked these two up from my local second hand shops and they cost me a whopping total of £1.50.

I love the polka dot one best, don't worry it isn't so shiny in real life I just had the flash on. So alls I need are some nice retro blouses and some vintage waves and I'm good to go. The second looks pretty horrid on its own but with the right top and accessories I'm sure I can pull it off and if I fail it was only £1 so it doesn't matter.

Anybody you ladies rocking the midi skirts this season?

My retro rockabilly look of the day - inspired by Dita Von Teese

So last Saturday I had a busy day as during the day my local town had a 1940s event day on which included live music, vintage clothes and a good old fashion cup of tea in a china cup. This was followed my sister in laws hen night in the evening so I wanted a look that would be suitable for both day and night.

Here is what a came up with: the first collage is the make up I wore, my dress, my inspiration - Dita Von Teese as always and my accessories for the day. The second collage is my finished look.

Hair & Make Up - This was a look which I love and don't variate much from its a classic vintage style. Shaped eyebrows, winged eyeliner, simple eyeshadow and a bright red lip. Not to forget the added glamour with a fake beauty spot.
With my hair I went for the victory rolls which was my first attempt at this and I must say it was more difficult than I thought it would be. The YouTube tutorials make it look so easy haha. Surprisingly my hair stayed up and didn't budge all day or night thanks to a lot of bobby pins and hairspray.

Dress - This is the fitted Dolores dress by Collectif which is my favourite at the moment I just love the shape and fit of this dress. It is available in a lot of different prints both fitted or flared. I couldn't resist this when I saw the leopard print.

Accessories - I wore a red flower in my hair at the back of one of my victory rolls this was to add to the retro rockabilly look which I favour. I used my vintage 1940s bag that I picked up at a fair a few weeks ago and a non retro plastic oversized bow ring that I just love. I can't resist leopard print or bows it seems.

I hope you like my retro look - Jodie x

Vintage Fair finds

So while browsing Facebook this morning I saw that there was a local Vintage Fair on at Haigh Hall. This is a gorgeous Georgian manor house in my local town of Wigan. I got married there so it has a special place in my heart.
Anyway its my day off so I know I had to go to the fair.
I got there early in the day before all the bargains where snapped up, unfortunately I have recently spent all my spare money on make up and tattoos so I couldn't buy all that I wanted, but here are my bargains of the day.

1. Vintage handbag 1940s style - £4
As you know I love all things retro and rockabilly so one of these style handbags are a must. Lux de ville do nice modern versions but I'm happy to snap up a vintage one. This is such a find as a lady a couple of stalls down had similar ones for £30. The bag doesn't have any branding to it, it is nice and big inside with one main compartment and 2 smaller zip pockets.

2. Teapot that's also a cup - £5
So yes I know this isn't vintage but I've been after a teapot for ages. I've even scoured my local charity shops and not found one. So I was super happy to spot this. I love how it is retro themed and how it is a 2 in one.

3. Oversized bow ring - £1
Again not vintage but a steal at just £1. This is a item that I have searched eBay for in the past but there weren't any as nice or cheap.

This is all that I purchased but I did see some amazing things. One stall had all vintage dresses for £10, blouses and skirts £5. Unfortunately I didn't find anything that I liked or if I did like it then it wasn't my size.
There where lots of cupcake stalls which where very cute and looked yummy.
There was a couple of craft stalls that sold handmade bags and purses, I was very tempted with a handstitched notebook cover with book inside. They had some gorgeous one off designs that I new I wouldn't see again. That is the hard thing with vintage fairs you know you are unlikely to ever find that item ever again, it's now or never.

Overall I had a great day and they had a retro singer on too singing some of the old hits. It was like a step back in time to the war.

Irregular Choice Mermaid Open Toe red patent shoes

I have just purchased some of these and I am already in love with them! I love the style as they are perfect for my "pin up" 50s look without wearing massive heels. I'm not a fan of massive heels mainly because I can't walk in them and the fact that my husband is the same height as me 5'6 and I don't want to be towering over him. The heels on these are about 2 1/2 inches so it's a good height.
They are bright pillar box red to match my favourite lipstick and they are super comfy what more do you need.
The only downside is the strap doesn't adjust so if you have wide or fat feet they aren't going to fit in them.

The icing on the top is the cat print sole which is amazing in itself it's a shame it will get worn down it looks so cute!.
These come with spare heels and packaged in a bright girlie box. Overall these are a winner for me I now want them in more colours!
I plan to dress these up with a leopard print wiggle dress and red patent handbag or dress then down with skinny jeans.
I can't wait to break these shoes in.
